What are the MUST HAVE Insta360 Accessories?

Insta360 have an impressive array of cameras but the company didn’t stop there. You’ll find a huge number of accessories to supplement your cameras and boost their capabilities. Some of these accessorises won’t be necessary for everyone but there are a few that I think are really needed to get the most out of your camera.

I’ve been sent a lot of the accessories that Insta360 has available, but not all. I’ve been using the cameras themselves for years and have come to depend on a few to get some really amazing shots. Let’s take a look at some of the best ones and why you should consider them.

The Best Insta360 Accessories

Invisible Selfie Stick

Probably the most popular, most useful and the top recommended accessory for the Insta360 camera is the invisible selfie stick. This is a selfie stick that is designed to be invisible when use din conjunction with a 360 camera.

The invisible selfie camera works thanks to a small blindspot that the camera has in-between the two lenses. The invisible selfie stick has a very thin top and no protruding parts. It’s not a particularly revolutionary design and people (including me) realised this could be achieved with something like a light stand.

Insta360 are the first to formally create an accessory to take advantage of this quirk of 360 camera and you can use it to get some great effects. You can make it appear like the camera is floating or moving on its own.

You can create either a third person, first person or side-tracking shot depending on which direction you hold your invisible selfie stick. Here’s a tutorial on exactly how to use the invisible selfie stick and how they work.

There have been several iterations of the Invisible selfie stick and the latest one features both a Bluetooth shutter and a battery which can charge your camera three times over. If you don’t want these features then the latest version has an improved locking mechanism and stronger materials.

Extended Invisible Selfie Stick

I’m counting this as separate from the standard invisible selfie stick, as this one extends about three times longer, is far less portable but offers even more unique effects. The massive size of the extended invisible selfie stick means you can mimic a drone effect without actually using a drone.

Many places, particularly in cities, ban the use of drones. Using this type of selfie stick is the only way to get drone like shots without a special licence. This might not be neccessary for everyone; but if you want some unique shots in difficult places then these is a cost effective way to achieve this.

Protective Case

One of the less glamorous but still important option accessories is the Inst360 One X2 hard case. One of the issues with 360 cameras is how vulnerable the lenses are due to how they protrude out of the body. When not using the camera it’s important to keep it safe and away from anything that can scratch these lenses.

The hard case for the Insta360 One X2 is perfectly designed to keep the camera safe, and while you do get a soft case with the camera this is not good enough to protect it should it be dropped. I’ve broken a camera by dropping it while in a soft case, if I had used a hard case I would have saved the camera and in the end, money that it cost to fix.

Waterproof/Dive Case

If you want to use your Insta360 camera underwater then I strongly suggest purchasing either the waterproof case or the dive case.

While the recent Insta360 cameras are technically  waterproof up to a few metres, there have been several reports of cameras breaking soon after being using underwater. I personally would not use the cameras underwater without an extra case.

The waterproof case is the more basic option and would be good for use in shallow water or swimming pools. The dive case, as you might have guessed, should be used for diving in deeper waters.

You can get some great underwater shots with the Insta360 cameras and the software is designed to be used with the various cases. I think it’s better to be safe than sorry when using the Insta360 cameras underwater.

Mount Bundles

Insta360 has various bundles available for different sports. If you are purchasing an Insta360 camera to shoot action shots then it’s likely that there is a bundle for you. Some of the bundles include; Bike, Motorbike, Skiing, Skating, Kiteboard, Jetski, Bungie, Running, Football. Each of these bundles will have a set of two or more accessories that are perfect to use with the respective sport.

The accessories usually include body mounts and mounts for attaching to various equipment. These are usually good value and it’s better to buy the bundle rather than the individual accessories.

Backpack Mount

One of the newer Insta360 accessories is the backpack mount. If you are going hiking, skiing, climbing etc with a full backpack, then this backpack mount will allow you to shoot third person video. The mount works best with a full backpack and allows the camera to be located hands free above and behind the shooter, allowing you to continue your activities without having to worry about holding the camera.

Vibration Dampener

If you intend on shooting video on your motorbike, mountain bike or any vehicle that could cause serious vibrations then you’ll want to consider the vibration dampener. This small accessory improved the quality of your video and also protects your camera.

It’s not well known, but violent vibrations can damage the delicate components inside camera lenses, so if you want to record particularly speedy videos then this is definitely a worthwhile investment.
